“Cosplay” (dressing up in costume) is important to help celebrate the atmosphere of “Scares That Care! Weekend.” It is just as important to us, as it is to those who portray the characters we all love. Please note that we have a “No Live Weapons” policy that also includes that costume contest. Please leave all weapons – including staffs and oversized walking sticks – at home. There can be no items that generate heat or fire. No open flame, flash paper, powder explosives or fireworks of ANY kind. We reserve the right to inspect and subsequently ask you to remove an item from our convention floor if deemed necessary for the safety of all.
GUNS – Must be plastic and have a day-glo orange tip for safety. NO MAGAZINES for automatic or semi-automatic props. All guns must be CHECKED, CLEARED and BANDED by staff prior to entry.
EDGED WEAPON PROPS – Includes real knives, swords, axes, hatchets, scalpels and anything else that is sharp. Just remember – “If it really cuts, Joe will go nuts.” (Vendors selling such items will ask purchasers to adhere to this policy, and remind patrons that items must be removed from the convention floor after purchase.) “Freddy” gloves may be worn, provided the blades are dull and have a rounded tip.
EDGED WEAPONS FOR AUTOGRAPHS – Must be in a sheath or like container or box. Once signature is obtained, must be removed from the convention floor and placed in your room or vehicle. **Please allow celebrity to remove the item!**
COMBINATION WEAPONS – Includes Archery, etc. Bows and crossbows are permitted. NO ARROWS, unless arrows have been permanently attached to a quiver and without arrowheads. Chainsaws must be free of gasoline, and the cutting chain removed from the blade.
If you have any questions about a potential weapon for your costume, please take a picture and email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have fun and Thank you all! – Joe
