Scares That Care ‘Halloween In July’ Charity 5K & Kids Trick-Or-Trot Fun Run***

Scares That Care 5K (7 p.m. START) and Kids Trick-Or-Trot Fun Run (6:30 p.m.)

In partnership with mettleevents.com, we are back to host our 2nd annual 5K race during Scares That Care Charity Weekend 4! It’s Halloween in July and costumes are welcome! Custom race performance T-Shirts for all 5K participants and Treat Bags for all Kids on the Fun Run! Finisher medals for ALL! Prop Decoration Contest All Weekend
Help us “set the scene” for this year’s event! Build or modify a prop to be put on display in our promenade.
This is a great opportunity to test out a new technique or pull out an old favorite item you might have created. We will showcase the props in the main promenade of the event. Kids Zone (Room J) 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Please join us for the first ever “kids zone” portion of this year’s event! Children under the age of 16, accompanied by a parent or guardian, will have their own space to watch movies, read books, play board games or dress up, color, do crafts, and have fun at the selfie station. Please note that this is NOT a babysitting service and adults will be responsible for the children they bring into the room. The Kids Zone will feature several areas for children, tweens and teens.

Learn how to make monsters and make ups from simple items that can be easily acquired at your local grocery, drug and hardware stores. Roy will discuss the design and implementation of common items into a cool looking work of art! Please note that this is a Demonstration class. Great for kids!

Participants will learn the fundamental art of casting a body part using a skin safe compound that sets up in a very short amount of time. Participant will be able to cast a finger or toe of their choosing in this hands on workshop.

The Trials of Dagon: Innsmouths’ Revenge – Two years ago, the US government raided and destroyed an underwater city off the coast of Innsmouth, halting a horrendous take over planned by its inhabitants. Innsmouth, practically abandoned, has since attracted the curious and the fanatical from around the world. Strange happenings have been reported at the old Innsmouth lodge, infamous for its occult activity; Are you bold enough to enter its doors?

This Escape Room experience is based on the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, “The Shadow over Innsmouth” FREE for all Scares That Care attendees, but a suggested (not required) donation is welcomed. Escape Room presented by Meg C Design.

In this workshop learn how to pattern, cut, and assemble your very own helmet. These techniques are the cornerstone to foam fabrication. This is a demonstration with a hands-on portion where attendees will make their own helmet. All materials included in the price.

12:00pm – 4:00pm – HORROR Writer’s Workshop (requires additional ticket purchase HERE)
This event consists of a four hour in depth session for new authors (includes a thirty minute break for lunch). Hosted by Tom Monteleone with John Maclay & Olivia Monteleone.
Bring: Your laptop and the opening pages (up to 4) of a short story / novel / essay / nonfiction book (You name need not be on the pages—anonymity preferred)
Opening segment: brief explanation of major elements covered: Plot / Character / Dialogue / Voice / Point of View — Discussion and clarification of same
Exercise: Bookstore Browsing – to be explained
Final Hour: General Q & A on what we have learned, as well as anything else pertaining to getting published.
Tickets for this event are limited to only 15.

Kid’s Zombie Hunt
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm: It seems the Doubletree By Hilton has a small problem with a zombie infestation! We are asking for the help of children 12 and under, to find and exterminate these zombies! (Don’t worry, parents – these are slower than Romero zombies!) Nerf guns and a Guide will be provided to teams of eight kids at a time. Please meet at the Kids Zone, Room J.
